I am Allison Carlysle, an IT systems engineer with a mission to build systems that are as resilient and scalable behind the scenes as they are intuitive and effortless on the screen! I believe technology should be both powerful and approachable – turning complexity into clarity and transactions into lasting trust.
At Cartaniche Labs, I work as an eCommerce Solutions engineer where I design and develop custom eCommerce solutions for shop owners on platforms such as Oracle NetSuite, Adobe Commerce, Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and osCommerce. My work bridges systems analysis and software development, where I apply hands-on expertise in web technologies, databases, API integrations and cloud deployments.
Building Beyond eCommerce
I am currently studying cloud architecture, modern networking, automation and security through a rigorous competency based program aligned with a plethora of industry certifications. My training ensures I can design, secure and optimize IT environments that meet real world business demands.
My technical expertise includes:
- Networking & Security: designing and securing network infrastructures, implementing continuity and compliance strategies, and troubleshooting with advanced monitoring and analytics tools.
- Telecommunications & Wireless: engineering wired, wireless, cellular, and satellite communication systems that prioritize performance and secure data transmission.
- Cloud Engineering: architecting and deploying solutions on AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments; managing operations; and troubleshooting performance and security issues.
- Virtualization & IaaS: configuring and evaluating virtualization platforms and developing Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions to maximize scalability and efficiency.
- Hybrid Cloud & Orchestration: integrating on-premises, private, and public cloud systems with orchestration tools to deliver seamless hybrid deployments.
- Software Defined Networking & Automation: applying centralized, intent-based networking and building automated solutions with Python, APIs, and industry-standard tools to streamline operations.
- Security Models & AI: fortifying hybrid environments against emerging threats, applying advanced defense frameworks, and leveraging AI to automate detection, prevention, and remediation.
- Internet of Things (IoT): designing secure IoT architectures, addressing privacy and ethical concerns, and enabling connected solutions for modern infrastructure.
This foundation enables me to approach IT challenges holistically – combining networking, cloud, automation and security into cohesive, reliable systems.
SOCIHACKS™: Technology for Everyone
One of my proudest projects is SOCIHACKS™, a nonprofit I co-founded with Melissa Carlysle. We both grew up in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, where access to many resources including technology was scarce! In 1989, we met through Trio Upward Bound, a federally funded program for first generation and low income students. That program bridged divides, opened doors and proved that access and opportunity can change the course of a life – these two for certain!
Decades later, we carried that lesson into SOCIHACKS™. What began as a way to introduce underserved kids to STEM and STEAM grew into a multigenerational movement. Parents and grandparents who had never touched a computer asked to learn and we were eager to teach! Today, SOCIHACKS™ empowers learners across eight decades of life. It isn’t just about coding; it’s about breaking cycles of exclusion and proving that technology truly belongs to everyone.

In my spare time, I write approachable tech articles that strip away jargon and gatekeeping, because curiosity about technology should never feel intimidating!
